Phoenix & Scottsdale: Who says there's nothing new under the sun?
by Joe Passov, Eamon Lynch, Tara Gravel.
"Phoenix and Scottsdale are known for having some of the grandest old tracks in the Southwest, but this is still fertile terrain--a handful of newer courses have injected new life into the region, giving you even more reasons to visit. Toss in amenities for the not-so-golfy--world-class shopping, great food and superb spas--and you have a destination that promises golf and marital harmony."

Mystery Lovers - Don't Miss Sunday Evening at the Poisoned Pen

Please Note: Pre-Registration is Required. No onsite tickets will be available. Scottsdale's own Poisoned Pen Bookstore has recently opened a downtown shop in our up-and-coming warehouse district. For our Sunday evening event, owner Barbara Peters (once an LC Librarian) and manager David Strang have organized a delightful evening with delicious food from a local eatery - Arcadia Farms City Bakery. Barbara will also have a mystery author talk and book signing, though she doesn't know who it will be...Whoever she picks will be wonderful. We will keep you informed when we learn the author. For more info, visit the PP site at: http://www.poisonedpen.com/ and the Arcadia Farms site at: http://www.citybakeryaz.com/

In addition to books, authors and food, the PP is adjacent to an amazing gallery -- The Bentley Projects...watch their website for coming shows: www.bentleyprojects.com

Enjoyable books and authors, great food, and edgy art - what more could we want? Be sure to register for the Sunday evening event prior to coming to Phoenix. No tickets will be "sold at the door".

Tea Time in the Desert

If you have an hour free in the afternoon, take time for tea.

One problem with heat is that appetite becomes depressed. Fortunately, the state with London Bridge (map) also offers many opportunities to partake of a light afternoon tea (and in some places, afternoon tea's hearty cousin - high tea.)

Arizona Biltmore - elegant & lavish. $31
Serves tea through May. Call 602.381.7632 for reservations.

Public transit

Gooseberries Tea Room - cosy. $15

Abbey Gardens - country garden. $14.50
More high tea than afternoon tea, with gift shop.
